More information about Jumilhac:Jumilhac is a wonderful place to spend your holidays, or break your journey, in the Dordogne area. Set on the slopes of the valley of the River Isle, on the edge of the village of Jumilhac le Grand, our terraced gardens run down to the river bank. There are splendid views of the river, chateau and woodlands on the far bank of the Isle. What can we offer? Our four guest rooms have lovely views, and all have access to 2 bathrooms and WCs. Breakfast is served every day and two or three times a week dinner is available. Our cooking uses the freshest regional produce and we can cater for any special dietary needs. The following day's menu is displayed in the dining room and guests can reserve a table if they so choose. There are no washing machines in the guest-rooms, but we go one better: you can simply hand us your laundry in the special laundry net provided and we will be pleased to wash and dry it for you, so you can have a real holiday! There are lots of outside activities for children many of them in the immediate vicinity of the house. If the number of children is sufficient, we even organise treasure hunts in the woods. Should the weather be temporarily inclement, we have lots of games and toys available. We also have a well-stocked bookcase for both children and adults. In addition, a PC is available to all guests to use for e-mail or playing games, at a small additional charge. Pets are welcome - dogs are allowed on condition that they are well-behaved. Even hamsters or guinea pigs are welcome at all times and the rules on behaviour are waived in their case! We have a shaded dog kennel outside, where your dogs may be kept if you wish to leave them during the day. Dogs are also welcome in the gîtes but not in the guest-rooms. Jumilhac le Grand is a village of some 1200 inhabitants in the northern part of the Dordogne. It is part of the Perigord-Limousin Regional Nature Park, a protected area with a rich heritage. The landscape is one of hills and valleys and is perfectly suited to walks, bike-rides, and horseback riding. Its distinguishing features are green pastures with Limousin cows alternated by woods, orchards, rivers and lakes. In the rivers and lakes one can fish for trout as well as pike, perch and other coarse species. The impressive 13th Century castle of Jumilhac is part of the Richard the Lionheart Route together with other neighbouring castles (Nexon, Coussac-Bonneval and Chalus). This historic route, which is well-signposted, is best done by car.
